EIB in Zambia
March 2009
During the first two weeks of March 2009, members of Counter Balance visited Zambia to investigate two EIB loans for the mining sector. Through interviews with government officials in Lusaka as well as project sponsors and affected communities in the Copperbelt and Northwestern provinces, the mission gathered more insights and perspectives from the ground about EIB loans for the refurbishment of a copper smelter in Mufulira and the development of a greenfield mine at Lumwana.
