| European Investment Bank's Forum 2007. “Investing in Energy – Mastering Climate Change” in Ljubljana, Slovenia |
| As the EIB opened its two-day annual forum – entitled "Financing Energy – Mastering Climate Change" – in the Slovenian capital, Counter Balance called attention to the EIB’s energy lending in the last five years that has seen the bank lend four times as much money to fossil fuel projects than it has loaned to solar, wind and wood biomass energy sources altogether. |

| Counter Balance at EU Development Days in Lisbon |
| At the European Development Days in Lisbon NGO campaigners concerned about the expanding financing role of the European Investment Bank in developing countries have called for the Bank to urgently strengthen its lending standards and procedures. The coalition had a stand in the Development village and participated in the regular CSO workshop organised by the EIB presenting the newly released report commissioned by CEE Bankwatch Network and written by Dr Christopher Wright, Visiting researcher at the Center for Development and Environment at the University of Oslo “EIB: promoting development where appropriate” |

|
|
Counter Balance welcomes this step as the first one in the right direction and calls on the EU's house bank to take the lead worldwide in developing a more stringent definition of offshore financial centers and prohibited jurisdictions. In this regard, the prohibited lists internationally used do not go far enough. |

| Ugandan affected communities supported by local and international civil society organisations and lawyers launched
a complaint against EUR 95 million EIB loan for Bujagali Hydropower Dam. |
| Following the findings of a field mission to Uganda in April 2009, Counter Balance, in collaboration with Human Rights Lawyers of Sherpa (France) and CLAI (Italy), Ugandan local communities, and the Ugandan National Association of Professional Environmentalists (NAPE), filed a complaint against the European Investment Bank, following the successful outcomes of an earlier complaint filed against the World Bank through the its Inspection Panel.
